Which GPSR information belongs on a Shopify product page?
A Shopify store selling consumer products to EU customers must present the information required for an online distance-sale offer. The store technology does not change the underlying legal duties. The exact product scope and any additional sector rules still need product-specific review, while the visible offer should give buyers the operator, identification and safety information required by GPSR Article 19.
Which GPSR details must a Shopify product page show?
The offer should show the manufacturer's name or trade name and postal and electronic address. Where the manufacturer is outside the EU, it also needs the EU Responsible Person's name, postal address and electronic address. The page must identify the product through a picture, type and another product identifier and display applicable warnings or safety information in a language consumers can easily understand.
Is publishing the information in Shopify enough for compliance?
No. The product page addresses online-offer information, but compliance also depends on the product itself. Technical documentation, appropriate risk analysis, traceability, product or packaging labels, instructions and any tests or declarations required by applicable product law must be handled separately. A Shopify field or app cannot certify a product, replace the responsible economic operators or guarantee acceptance by authorities.
Does a non-EU Shopify merchant need an EU Responsible Person?
For a covered product, Article 16 requires an economic operator established in the EU before the product is placed on the EU market. A non-EU manufacturer may already have an EU importer occupying that role or may appoint an authorised representative in writing. The correct arrangement depends on the product, supply chain and any product-specific legislation; operating a Shopify store does not itself determine the role.
