The European Commission's Safety Gate search returned **2,508 alerts for 2026**. Of those results, **479 were toys** and **91 were childcare articles and children's equipment**, giving **570 child-related alerts**, or **22.7%** of the 2026 total. RAPEX is the former name of this EU rapid alert system; the current name is Safety Gate.

For the law behind those 479 toy alerts, see the [EU Toy Safety Regulation and GPSR 2026–2030 guide](https://eugpsr.de/en/blog/gpsr-toys-directive).

Grüner Baum GmbH uses Safety Gate alerts as evidence inputs for ongoing GPSR monitoring. An alert can reveal a known hazard in a comparable product, but it is not a certificate and does not decide whether another product complies.

For four verified alert records and their exact measures, see the [EU Safety Gate product recall examples](https://eugpsr.de/en/blog/safety-gate-cases-4-lessons).

## How many EU Safety Gate alerts have been published in 2026?

The live [European Commission Safety Gate search](https://ec.europa.eu/safety-gate-alerts/screen/search) returned the following results on 1 September 2026. The category figures come from separate searches with **Year = 2026**; the combined figure comes from selecting both child-related categories together.

| Official Safety Gate filter | 2026 results | Share of all 2026 results |
| --- | ---: | ---: |
| All product categories | 2,508 | 100% |
| Toys | 479 | 19.1% |
| Childcare articles and children's equipment | 91 | 3.6% |
| Toys + childcare articles | 570 | 22.7% |

Safety Gate is a live database. The Commission or notifying authorities can add, correct or update alerts, so these figures are a dated snapshot rather than a fixed annual total. For context, the Commission's [2025 Safety Gate report](https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_26_537) recorded **4,671 alerts**, up 13% from 2024, and **5,794 follow-up actions**, up 35%.

Cosmetics represented 36% of those 2025 alerts. The [EU Cosmetics Regulation and GPSR checklist](https://eugpsr.de/en/blog/cosmetics-regulation-gpsr) separates the cosmetics RP, CPSR, PIF and CPNP route from the GPSR duties that still complement it.

## Where can you find EU baby product and RAPEX alerts for 2026?

Use the official Safety Gate alert search rather than a copied recall list. Set **Year** to **2026**, select **Toys** and **Childcare articles and children's equipment**, then add the exact product term that matters to you, such as *soother*, *baby carrier*, *cot*, *high chair*, *rattle* or *children's clothing*.

The category filter alone is not enough. A baby product can appear under toys, childcare articles, clothing, electrical appliances or another category depending on its function. Search the exact product name and common synonyms, then read the full alert rather than relying on its headline.

For a worked clothing example, the [textile GPSR risk-assessment guide](https://eugpsr.de/en/blog/textile-gpsr-5-cases) separates traceable cord alerts from recurring REACH chemical-risk patterns and explains when targeted testing is justified.

## Which Safety Gate fields matter for a product review?

Grüner Baum records the alert reference and checks the product identity, risk and authority measure before comparing the alert with a client's product file.

| Safety Gate field | What it tells us | Monitoring decision |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Alert number and publication date | The official record and when it became public | Save a traceable source in the review file |
| Product, brand, model, barcode or batch | Whether the notified item can be reliably identified | Separate an exact match from a broad category similarity |
| Risk type and technical failure | The hazard and the reason the product was considered dangerous | Compare the hazard with the client's risk analysis and test evidence |
| Measures ordered or taken | Recall, withdrawal, import rejection, sales stop or another action | Judge urgency and whether immediate escalation is required |
| Country of origin and notifying country | Supply-chain and enforcement context | Check whether the same route, market or supplier is relevant |
| Product photographs | Visual identifiers, construction and packaging clues | Support identity checks; photographs never replace model or batch data |

## How does Grüner Baum monitor Safety Gate alerts?

Grüner Baum's monitoring process has five steps:

1. **Define the scope.** We record each client's product families, materials, intended users, age groups, destination markets, brands and identifiers.
2. **Run matched searches.** We review new alerts by category and product terms. Higher-risk portfolios such as toys, childcare products and electrical goods receive closer attention.
3. **Compare the evidence.** We compare the notified product, failure mode, material, age group and use case with the client's technical documentation and existing risk analysis.
4. **Classify the match.** We distinguish an exact product match, a close technical analogue and a weak category-only similarity.
5. **Record or escalate.** Weak matches are logged. Close matches can trigger a document, warning or test review. An exact match can require immediate incident and corrective-action handling.

This is what weekly Safety Gate monitoring means in our service: a repeatable screening and decision process, not an automated email containing every EU recall.

## When should a Safety Gate alert trigger action?

A Safety Gate alert should trigger a focused review when the notified product shares a relevant model, supplier, material, construction, age group or foreseeable use with your product. The next question is whether the recorded failure is already covered by the product's risk controls and evidence.

- **Exact product, model or batch match:** stop routine treatment and begin the applicable incident, traceability and corrective-action process.
- **Close technical match:** review the risk analysis, tests, warnings, instructions and supplier evidence; update them if the alert changes the known risk.
- **Broad category match only:** record the alert and its screening reason. Do not treat category similarity alone as proof of non-compliance.

The [GPSR risk-assessment guide](https://eugpsr.de/en/risk-assessment) explains how Safety Gate evidence fits into the wider product-specific analysis. Under the [GPSR](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg/2023/988/oj), the duty to draw up and keep the technical documentation stays with the manufacturer.

## What can Safety Gate monitoring not prove?

Safety Gate monitoring cannot prove that a product is safe, compliant or free from future recalls. A search with no close match means only that no matching public alert was found under the terms and filters used at that time.

Safety Gate also cannot replace product-specific testing, applicable harmonised or other standards, supplier controls, complaint handling or current technical documentation. Monitoring is valuable because it adds verified market evidence to those controls.

## Frequently asked questions about Safety Gate and RAPEX alerts

### Is RAPEX the same as the EU Safety Gate?

Yes. RAPEX is the former name commonly used for the EU rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products. The current public name is Safety Gate.

### Where can I find EU baby product alerts for 2026?

Use the European Commission Safety Gate alert search, select 2026, then combine Toys and Childcare articles and children's equipment with product terms such as soother, baby carrier or cot.

### Does a Safety Gate alert mean every similar product is unsafe?

No. An alert concerns an identified product, model or batch and a recorded risk. Similarity is a reason to review your evidence, not proof that every comparable product is unsafe.

### How often should a business monitor Safety Gate?

The GPSR does not set one universal weekly interval. The monitoring cycle should follow the product category and risk profile; Grüner Baum reviews matched alerts weekly within its monitoring service and escalates close matches promptly.

### Does Safety Gate monitoring replace a GPSR risk assessment?

No. Safety Gate alerts are supporting evidence for identifying known hazards. They do not replace product-specific analysis, applicable testing, standards or the manufacturer's technical documentation.
